About the Medical Laboratory Sciences
European School of Medical Laboratory Scientists’ main goal is to prepare high-level specialists capable to provide critical information needed for diagnosis, prognosis, and management of the disease and explore specialized concepts in biochemistry, hematology, transfusion, and transplantation science, microbiology, pathology, immunology, cytogenetic and molecular pathology, histopathological techniques, quantitative medical science, quality assurance systems, and health informatics. The work requires exacting precision and accuracy and is performed in a fast-paced, highly computerized, and technological environment.
During the studying process future, medical laboratory scientists analyze blood, body fluids, tissues, and cells. Medical laboratory scientists perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunological, microscopic, and molecular tests on patient samples using sophisticated equipment like microscopes. The data they find plays an important role in identifying and treating cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and other medical conditions. They are required to have a strong background in biology, chemistry, and medicine therefore this Course attempts to provide both a strong foundation in basic sciences and competent practice in the medical laboratory. By using modern technical equipment and laboratories, future specialists have opportunities for fast and accurate obtaining new knowledge, the performance of lab tests, quality control, quality assurance, infection control, cost-effectiveness, revenue generation, and management of human resources.

The Educational Process
Medical laboratory scientists (MLS) play a crucial role in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients therefore an organization of their educational activity in the IEU contains innovative educational methods to contribute to best practices in laboratory science education.
MLS students at the International European University in Poland are learning to perform complex testing using sophisticated instruments to detect diseases and monitor treatment. Approximately 75% of medical decisions, diagnoses, treatments, and evaluations, are based on the interpretations of laboratory test results. In addition to the medical laboratory setting, graduates of our Course are qualified to work in a variety of other laboratory facilities such as research, environmental, biomedical, or forensic laboratories. With the curriculum emphasis on developing a quality understanding of laboratory methods and their diagnostic interpretation, our graduates are also excellent candidates for graduate research degree programs or graduate medical professional schools.
MLS students are learning how to:
- perform, develop, evaluate, correlate and assure the accuracy and validity of laboratory information;
- direct and supervise clinical laboratory resources and operations, and collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Also during your practices, you will have exciting tasks such as:
- Examining and analyzing blood, body fluids, tissues, and cells;
- Relaying test results to physicians;
- Utilizing microscopes, cell counters, and other high-precision lab equipment;
- Cross-matching blood for transfusion;
- Monitoring patient outcomes;
- Performing differential cell counts looking for abnormal cells to aid in the diagnosis of anemia and leukemia;
- Establishing quality assurance programs to monitor and ensure the accuracy of test results;
- Overseeing the work of a medical laboratory technician.
After graduating you will receive the skills necessary for financial, operations, marketing, and human resource management of the clinical laboratory and will be able to practice independently and collaboratively, being responsible for your actions, as defined by the profession. You will obtain knowledge and skills to educate other laboratory professionals, other health care professionals, and others in laboratory practice as well as the public.
The MLS Program at the International European University has an ethical responsibility for the safety of patients with whom students and graduates will come in contact. Although students learn and work under the supervision of the faculty, students interact with patients and their specimens throughout their MLS education. Patient safety and well‐being are therefore major factors in establishing requirements involving the physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities of students for admission, progression, and graduation. Students must have the physical and emotional stamina and capacity to function competently in the hospital, classroom, and laboratory settings, including settings that may involve heavy workloads, long hours, and stressful situations.
